Reset or restart your computers regularly. This instruction is one of the manufacturers’ recommendations when working with computers. Some manuals suggest doing this procedure at least once a week. Resetting or restarting a computer is effective for several reasons. Software can become bloated. Settings files can become corrupt. Additionally, your computer’s drive can fill up with unnecessary files over time. Resetting our computers avoids these unnecessary inconveniences.
Similarly, the new year is a time to reset our goals and life. The new year prompts us to stop. We hit the reset button to clear our minds. Then, we start over. Life is much better when we have a fresh start.
It means we should stop looking at the past. We will only focus on the goals of moving ahead and not going backward —a fresh start. If, for example, you have chosen to retire in Delray Beach, embrace the experience. Stop thinking about going back to live in New York. If you decide to end an abusive relationship, then stop thinking of returning to your situation from a year ago.
During the new year, we make different resolutions because it is our will to become better people. It is always a time of transformation in various areas of our lives. We wanted better health, relationships, financial situations, and a happier and more fulfilling life. As you make the most of this day, you may unknowingly influence another person’s life. You bless another person by standing as a witness to a hopeful and joyful life.
Yet, sometimes, in the middle of February, we go back to where we came from. Sometimes, as we repeatedly do things, they quickly get old.
More often, what makes us quit is that we want to have immediate results. We put our treadmills away when we don’t achieve the desired weight in two months. Alternatively, we convert them into clothes hangers.
Let us always make the journey new. And you know what makes something always exciting and new? It is our faith in God. Our faith sustains and invigorates us. Faith gives us a broader perspective, so we won’t easily be discouraged by what comes along the way. It is the faith that gives and enriches our sense of purpose and direction in life. Our faith informs us that there is hope. Life will get better. Move ahead!
The New Testament says that “God makes everything new. God does not only create things. He also recreates them. So, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new (2 Col 5:17).”
It is also through the grace of God that healing is possible. We need a lot of healing. We are fragile individuals, and our daily experiences and struggles may bring wounds to our relationships and personal lives. Bringing the newness of God prevents us from dwelling on the past. It provides us with the ability and vigor to move ahead.
God is actively involved in the lives of His people. The things He has promised in the past have come to pass. Let us bring the best this new year. Let us reset the button of our lives and start anew.
